Kristen Rønnevik(f.1977, Bergen) er en billedkunstner basert i Haugesund, Norge.
Han arbeider med tverrfaglig, stedsbestemt og prosjektorientert-/relasjonell kunst.
Rønnevik tar sin kunstpraksis ut av gallerirommet, og inn i hverdagen i byen, kysten og landskapet. Han skaper og koreograferer rom og situasjoner. Situasjonene består av midlertidige sosiale møter mellom mennesker, naturen og landskapet. Situasjoner som er fri for forbruk, konsum og konkurranse. Han ønsker å muliggjøre sanseopplevelser, bevissthet og refleksjon i mer hverdagslige og sosiale situasjoner. Det er viktig for ham at deltakerne er medskapere i prosessen, og at de har en opplevelse av mestring og likeverd. Han er inspirert av (kyst)samisk holdning, tro og lære: Å IKKE SANKE MER ENN HVA VI BEHØVER, OG Å VISE OG UTØVE YDMYKHET, RESPEKT OG TAKKNEMLIGHET FOR NATUREN. Grunntanken er at naturen og dens økologi er læremesteren, mens byen og kysten er både hagen, lerretet og scenen der han utfolder sitt kunstneriske virke. Han ønsker å la fellesskap, demokratisering og medborger-ansvar få rom i sine kunstprosjekter.

Rønnevik har kunstutdannelse fra University of Westminster, London, Hull School of Art & Design, Hochschule Bildende Künste Braunschweig, Tyskland og Master fra Malmö Konst Akademi. Han deltok i de åpne klassene til performance-professor Marina Abramovic i Braunschweig. Jimmie Durham var en av hans veiledere på Master-studiet i Malmö. Han har gjennomført studiet Økologisk skolehage og Bærekraftig læring, NMBU v/Bygdøy Kongsgård, og Mindfulnessinstruktør-studium ved Creationworks, Bærum. Rønnevik har også deltatt på studier ved Ulvik gartnerskole, og kurs om permakultur ved Gaia Tjøme.
Rønnevik har hatt soloutstilling ved Galleri Opdahl, Stavanger og deltatt på utstillinger og festivaler i England, USA, Tyskland, Ungarn, Estland, Danmark, Sverige og Norge. Hans verk er kjøpt inn av Norsk Kulturråd, Haugesund Billedgalleri v/Haugalandmuseet, og er representert i ulike private samlinger. I 2014 deltok han på Vestlandsutstillingen med verket GRANSKNING OG EKSISTENSBERETTIGELSE AV KUNSTPROSJEKTET GRØNN AU PAIR. Rønnevik sine verk er relasjonelle og tidsbaserte, men manifester seg også noen ganger gjennom forelesing, dokumentasjon i form av foto og tekst, installasjon, samt bok. I 2021 etablerte han SPUREN FORLAG sammen med grafisk designer Katja Mühlberger, hvor de utga boken: BRO TIL SKOG, OG SKOG TIL RO – et deltakende landskapskunstprosjekt (2021).
De siste femten årene har Rønnevik jobbet både i tradisjonelle utstillings- og festivalsettinger, samt mer prosessorientert utenfor institusjonene. Rønneviks daglige virke er som kunstner og miljøvennlig hagepleier i GRØNN HAGEPLEIE. I samtale med sine kunder, skaper han dialog om miljøbevissthet i folks hverdag.
Rønnevik legger til rette og arrangerer hverdagslige situasjoner utenfor galleriene og institusjonene. I situasjonene er det viktig for ham at deltakerne er medskaper i prosessen. Ofte tar han senere utdrag fra kunsten i de arrangerte situasjonene, og forflytter den tilbake til gallerirommet.
Rønnevik ønsker å stimulere til innsikt og kontakt mellom mennesker, nærmiljø, lokal natur og kystnatur. Deltagelse, samhandling og dialog er et gjennomgående element i hans kunstnerskap.
Kristen Rønnevik (b.1977, Bergen) is a visual artist based in Haugesund, south-west coast of Norway.
He works with interdisciplinary, site-specific and project-oriented/relational art.
Rønnevik takes his art practice out of the gallery space and into everyday life in the city, the coast and the landscape. He creates and choreographs spaces and situations. The situations consist of temporary social encounters between people, nature and the landscape. Situations that are free from consume, consumption and competition. He wants to enable sensory experiences, awareness and reflection in more everyday and social situations. It is important to him that the participants are co-creators in the process, and that they have an experience of empowerment and equality. He is inspired by (Coast) Sami attitude, beliefs and teachings: NOT TO COLLECT AND GATHER MORE THAN WHAT WE NEED, AND TO SHOW AND EXERCISE HUMILITY, RESPECT AND GRATITUDE FOR NATURE. The basic idea is that nature and its ecology is the master, while the city and the coast are both the garden, the canvas and the stage where he unfolds his artistic work. He wish to allow community, democratization and civic responsibility to have space in his art projects.

Rønnevik has an art education from the University of Westminster, London, Hull School of Art & Design, Hochschule Bildende Künste Braunschweig, Germany and a Master’s from Malmö Konst Akademi. He participated in the open classes of performance professor Marina Abramovic in Braunschweig. Jimmie Durham was one of his supervisors on the Master’s course in Malmö. He has completed the Ecological School Garden and Sustainable Learning, NMBU v/Bygdøy Kongsgård, and the Mindfulness Instructor course at Creationworks, Bærum. Rønnevik has also taken part in studies at Ulvik gardening school, and courses on permaculture at Gaia Tjøme.
Rønnevik has had a solo exhibition at Galleri Opdahl (Stavanger), Gallery F15(Moss) and participated in exhibitions and festivals in England, the USA, Germany, Hungary, Estonia, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. His work has been purchased by the Norwegian Cultural Council, Haugesund Picture Gallery v/Haugalandmuseet, and is represented in various private collections. In 2014, he participated in the Vestland exhibition with the work EXAMINATION AND EXISTENCE JUSTIFICATION OF THE ART PROJECT GREEN AU PAIR. Rønnevik’s works are relational and time-based, but sometimes also manifest themselves through lectures, documentation in the form of photos and text, installations and books. In 2021, he established SPUREN FORLAG together with graphic designer Katja Mühlberger, where they published the book: BRO TIL SKOG, OG SKOG TIL RO – a participatory landscape art project (2021).
For the past fifteen years, Rønnevik has worked both in traditional exhibition and festival settings, as well as more process-oriented outside the institutions. Rønnevik’s daily work is as an artist and environmentally friendly gardener in GRØNN HAGEPLEIE/GREEN GARDEN-NURTURE. In conversation with his customers, he creates dialogue about environmental awareness in people’s everyday lives.
Rønnevik facilitates and arranges everyday situations outside the galleries and institutions. It is important to him in these situations, that the participants are co-creators in the process. He often takes excerpts from the art in the arranged situations, and transfers it back to the gallery space.
Rønnevik wants to stimulate insight and contact between people, the local environment, local nature and coastal nature. Participation, interaction and dialogue are a consistent element in his art practice.
